Boiler Pressure Problem - Hello, where I live, it’s mostly gas furnaces with air conditioners or heat pumps. My boiler just started causing problems with high pressure. I work in HVAC as a technician but do not have a lot of experience with hot water or steam boilers.

Nov 17, 2008 · My hot water boiler keeps increasing pressure when it runs. The other reason for high pressure would be a bad feeder which you said you replaced. Now that you have drain the tank, see if the pressure stays below 20 PSI. I may have overlooked the obvious here and it's possible that your pressure gauge is way off.

I didn't check the pressure before I shut off the boiler, so I don't have anything to compare it with. When I open the drain, the psi goes to 12, and then rises back up to 23 psi.

Nov 17, 2008 · My hotwater boiler keeps increasing pressure when it runs. Normal pressure is 12psi but it has risen to as high as 40psi though the max pressure is indicated as 30psi on the gauge. I rcently replaced the flow control value which I set to the normal 12psi prior to use of the heater.

Drain water out of the boiler's drain valve. This valve is located at the bottom of the boiler. The valve looks like a water spigot you would find on the outside of your house. Turn the handle counterclockwise to open the valve. Drain water until the pressure gauge reads 10 psi (pounds per square inch).
