Jan 01, 2013 · The ASME BPVC describes three areas of technical responsibility: the boiler proper, the boiler external piping and joint, and non-boiler external piping and joint. The boiler proper falls under the administrative jurisdiction and technical responsibility of Section 1 of the ASME BPVC.
Another type of watertube boiler is the cast iron sectional boiler. Used exclusively for residential and commercial applications, this boiler is limited in design pressure due to the use of castings and is therefore never used for high-pressure steam applications.
Sectional boilers are typically assembled with tapered connections called push nipples or elastomeric-type gaskets between the sections to seal the water-containing chambers. Another type of assembly uses external headers to connect the water containing chambers. Cast-iron boilers can be found in almost any application where heating boilers are used.

May 15, 2008 · Best Answer: Drawing are intended to communicate design intent from the engineer/drafter to the craftsman making the components. If a orthographic view does not clearly identify design intent, due to the number of features and details involved, then the section view is often utilized to show interior details and to provide additional clarity.
Nov 08, 2016 · Firetube boilers are commonly used for applications ranging from 51 up to 2,200 horsepower. These types of boilers use a cylindrical vessel with the combustion gases inside of the tubes and the flame located in the furnace. In addition to housing the tubes and furnace, the vessel also houses the steam and water.

In technical drawing, a sectional view is the view of an object that has been sliced through, showing what goes on inside it. To show where the object cut sectional lines are drawn.
I. Power Boilers. and high temperature water boilers intended for operation at pressures exceeding 160 psig and or temperatures exceeding 250 degree F. Superheaters, economizers, and other pressure parts connected directly to the boiler without intervening valves are considered as part of the scope of Section 1.
All large and many intermediate-sized boilers are water-tube boiler with a boiler section that consists of closely-spaced water tubes covering the furnace wall. The waterwall boiler design allows much lighter, less expensive walls by having the waterwalls form an integral part of the boiler wall so that the wall is water cooled.

Industrial boiler technology for beginners | 5. Design of an industrial boiler. At full capacity a boiler of this size converts 3 000 litres of fuel oil or a corresponding amount of natural gas to thermal or process heat every hour. This would be sufficient to heat more than 2 000 houses.
Horizontal-sectional, cast iron boilers are made up of sections stacked one above the other, like pancakes, and assembled with push nipples. Vertical-sectional, cast iron boilers are made up of sections standing vertically, like slices in a loaf of bread. One-piece cast iron boilers are those in which the pressure vessel is made as a single casting.

The first sectional water-tube boiler, with a well-defined circulation, was built by Joseph Eve, in 1825. The sections were composed of small tubes with a slight double curve, but being practically vertical, fixed in horizontal headers, which headers were in turn connected to a steam space above and a water space below formed of larger pipes.

My feeling is that if cast iron sectional boilers are assembled properly and water quality is good there should never be a leak whether it is an O-Ring or push nipple. But if I get a call to repair a cast iron sectional I pray that it isn't a push nipple boiler. Again just my experience talking. Strictly just my personal opinion.

The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code is an American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard that regulates the design and construction of boilers and pressure vessels. The document is written and maintained by volunteers chosen for their technical expertise. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers works as an Accreditation Body and entitles independent third parties such as verification, testing and certification agencies to inspect and ensure compliance to the BPVC.
Boilers can be classified into fire-tube, water-tube boilers or cast iron sectional depending on whether the heat source is inside or outside the tubes or in the case of the cast iron sectional the design and manufacture of the boiler. The goal in all cases is to maximise the heat transfer between the water and the hot gases heating it.
Sectional boilers, for example, allow all of the boiler parts to be brought into a building through a standard sized doorway and then assembled in place. This makes water tube and sectional boilers comparatively safe, because each section contains a relatively small amount of water.
