If it's just the sight glass you want to clean, I find that a piece of fine wire, with a soft tip attached (cotton bud tube without the cotton) , can usually be used through the filler to scrape the lime scale gently off the glass. Then, give it a good rinse and drain the water. Careful not to drop anything in there though. :D
